Change is rarely easy, even when it’s good for you. In my own healing journey, I learned just how much doing something new can test you - not only physically, but mentally and emotionally too.
The Challenge of Change
To heal from my past pains, I had to change my entire lifestyle. At first, the work felt overwhelming. My old patterns were familiar, even if they weren’t healthy, while the new choices demanded discipline, consistency and faith.
Some days, it felt easier to slip back into old ways. But the truth is, healing doesn’t happen in comfort zones. It happens in the space where you are stretched.
The Power of Accountability
What kept me going was having an independent accountability partner in the form of my coach. Because their work with me was guided by the goals I had set, there was no room for excuses, defensiveness or taking things personally.
Investing my resources in coaching also made me more determined to stay the course. The financial sacrifice meant I could not afford to waste my investment - and that weight of accountability pushed me forward when motivation felt thin.
Reframing My Thinking
Through coaching, I learned to reframe my thinking in ways that opened doors to new possibilities. I started making healthier choices across every area of my life:
- Physical health - honouring my body through rest and movement.
- Emotional health - giving myself space to feel without shame.
- Relational health - choosing intentional, values-aligned connections.
- Environmental health - being mindful of the spaces I placed myself in.
- Financial health - aligning money choices with my vision.
- Mental health - prioritising clarity, peace and growth.
- Career health - defining a vision and walking toward it with purpose.
A values-based routine became my compass, guiding me back to alignment whenever I was tempted to return to old habits.
The Ripple Effects of Healing
Slowly, change began to show itself: I was in a better mood, my mental state improved, my physical body grew stronger, my vision for my career became clearer and my relationships more intentional.
Exploring new hobbies and experiences introduced me to like-minded people and widened my sense of possibility. With every small step, I created a life my old one could never pull me back into for too long.
Worth Every Step
Change is not always easy. It will test you, stretch you and tempt you to give up. But when it’s intentional and rooted in your healing, it is always worth it.
I can say this with certainty: my life today is unrecognisable compared to the one I left behind. While old patterns sometimes try to resurface, my deep healing always steers me quickly back to alignment.
And that is my wish for you too - that you find the courage to embrace what is new, even when it is difficult and that you experience the freedom and fullness waiting for you on the other side.
